My Life My Damage

The official “My Life My Damage” poster that Uche Jombo tweeted, complete with release date (Photo credit: Uche Jombo Studios)

My Life My Damage, the second entry in Uche Jombo’s trilogy of movies, will be released early in 2013.

It finally has a release date—My Life My Damage, that is.

Uche Jombo tweeted the message,

“Tonto dikeh in her best yet….. #my life my damage official poster,” which preceded a link to the movie poster posted at Instagram. Printed below the haggard and unkempt face of the movie’s star, Tonto Dikeh, is the following in red font: “in cinemas Feb 1st 2013.”

My Life My Damage is the second film of a planned trilogy under Uche Jombo’s production imprint, Uche Jombo Studios. It features Dikeh in the lead role as Dora, whose reckless lifestyle as a drug addict catches up with her when she contracts HIV.

“Tonto Dikeh is a slave to her character Dora. Her realistic acting is what makes Dora so real,” reads the description of Dikeh and the character she plays.

A theme ties Jombo’s three films together: “damage.”

Indeed, each film contains that word in its title. The “damage” in the first movie, the award-winning Damage (2011), is the adverse effect a turbulent marriage has on the children it has produced.

The “damage” in My Life My Damage is the result of Dora’s aforementioned behavior.

Although casting and release date are yet to be determined for the third movie, My Country, Their Damage is expected to follow the same theme as its two predecessors.

Jombo is the executive producer and co-screenwriter of all three movies. Dikeh gets co-producer credit for My Life My Damage.

Synopsis

Chuks Oti, mixed-race 419 (advance fee fraud) scammer and illegal immigrant recently deported back to his home country Nigeria from London. Once there he manages to wangle his way out of a possible jail term and ends up in the holiday resort city, Calabar, living with his loyal, much younger British girlfriend Margaret, who insisted on travelling with him to Nigeria.

Chuks takes on menial jobs to make ends meet, but life is difficult .When he runs into his old 419 mate, Mike, a Nigerian pleasure seeker who is full of wild energy and loves to take risks, the two down-on-their-luck friends, with no jobs and no prospects, soon find themselves back in the criminal world.

They become enveloped in a web of scams and danger presided over by the mysterious De Don, leader of a gang of underground arms and drug dealers, who’s hatched an evil plan to takeover the peaceful streets of Calabar.

Chuks and Mike are forced to become part of a dangerous covert police mission led by two internationally trained detectives to stop De Don and keep the streets of Calabar free of crime. But they soon find themselves the targets, as the evil De Don suspects a double cross.

Pursued across the breathtaking scenery of Cross River State by De Don and his guards as well as a raging group of Cameroonian “yardies”, not to mention one very pissed off cattle herdsman, time ticks down to an explosive climax.

Writer and former BBC/CNN reporter and presenter, Charles Aniagolu, weaves an intricate and funny story in this thriller-comedy, with a cleverness and wit that will leave you tense and laughing at the same time.

Black November

SYNOPSIS

Oscar winner Kim Basinger and Oscar nominee Mickey Rourke are reunited in this wrenching account of Americans caught up in the violence of Nigeria’s petroleum-rich Niger Delta region. As a small community struggles to survive in a land slow-poisoned by decades of oil spills and incessant gas flares, the young western-educated Ebiere, touchingly portrayed by Mbong Amata, becomes the voice of her people against the Western Oil Corporation, and the government that serves as its accomplice.

After a gasoline explosion kills hundreds from her town, Ebiere’s pleas for justice and compensation seem to find sympathetic ears. But when the CEO of Western Oil (Rourke) tries to make the problem go away by throwing money at it, the community is soon torn apart by personal interests. As Ebiere passionately makes her case for non-violent resistance, the men around her, led by her lover Dede, are drawn into a bloody struggle with an army now turned against its own people.

Ebiere tries to end the violence by giving the authorities what they want most: her. But her show trial instead leads the rebels to America, where they hope a kidnapping will bring Ebiere’s plight to the world’s attention.

Acclaimed Nigerian director Jeta Amata turns an incisive eye on the collusion of corporate money and crooked politics — and all the broken hearts and sacrificed lives caught in the middle.
